AI-School desktop application

Date: 2026-02-23
Category: Update
AI-School is now also available as a desktop application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. For most tasks, the web version works just fine, but the desktop app enables a few extra features that are not possible in the browser.
Why a desktop app? With the desktop application, you can:
- Run AI locally (optionally via Ollama)
This means: more privacy (data does not leave your computer) and no extra API costs for local models. - Work with local files
Files can be read and saved directly on your computer. Convenient for analyzing documents without uploading and for creating/organizing notes and folders. - Use local connections (MCP servers)
Some connections work via the command line and are therefore only possible in the desktop app.
Note: logging in works differently
In the desktop app, you log in with email + password. If you use Google or Microsoft in the web version, first set a password via:
Web version → Account → Login methods → Set password.
Forgot your password? You can reset it there as well.
Installation: what you need For some features, additional components are required:
- Node.js (LTS) – required for MCP servers and certain functionalities.
- Ollama (optional) – only needed if you want to use local AI models.
