Android app

AI-School has its own app for Android phones, tablets and Chromebooks. You install it for free through Google Play. Anyone with an AI-School account can use the app. The app is available in the Netherlands and Belgium.

What do you need?

  • An Android phone or tablet with Android 9 or newer, or a Chromebook with Google Play
  • A Google account that you can use to download apps from Google Play
  • Your regular AI-School account (Google, Microsoft or email, just like on the website)

Installing the app

  1. Open Google Play and search for AI-School, or open AI-School on Google Play.
  2. Tap Install and open the app.
  3. Find your school or organization. Type at least three letters of the name.
  4. Log in as you are used to: with Google, Microsoft or your email address, depending on what your school uses.
  5. Allow access to the microphone and notifications when the app asks for it. These are needed for recording, dictation and voice chat.
Automatic updates

Google Play updates the app by itself when automatic updates are turned on. That way you always have the latest version.

What can you do with the app?

  • Chat with the AI models and assistants of your school, including by voice
  • Transcription: make recordings and have them transcribed, even when you lock the screen
  • Add files from your phone, or share audio and documents from other apps
  • Link a Plaud recorder: new recordings come in automatically and are transcribed automatically
  • For teachers: My groups with the AI policy per group
  • For administrators: Administration of staff, students, groups and accounts

What you see in the app depends on your role and your school's settings, just like on the website. You use the same account and the same conversations as on the website.

A linked Plaud recorder stays connected as long as the app is running, including in the background. If Android closes the app after a long time in the background, just open the app briefly; fetching new recordings then continues. You can read more about the recorder in Mobile App.

On a Chromebook

There is no separate desktop app for Linux. On a Chromebook, install this Android app from Google Play. There it also works in a large window and with a keyboard and mouse:

  • Make the window as large or small as you like. On a wide screen, the menu and your conversations sit next to the chat.
  • Enter sends your message, Shift+Enter adds a new line.
  • Shortcuts: Ctrl+N new chat, Ctrl+K search conversations, Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 and Ctrl+3 for Chat, Transcription and More, and Ctrl+, for Preferences.
  • Drag files into the chat, or copy them and paste them with Ctrl+V.

Problems?

Can't find your school, or can't log in? Then contact the AI-School administrator at your school. What you do in the app falls under the same privacy agreements as the website.

Uninstalling the app

Press and hold the app icon and choose Uninstall, or uninstall the app through Google Play. Your account and your data in AI-School remain intact. Do you still have a recording that has not been processed yet? Then only uninstall the app once it has been processed.

Chat, voice and recovery

The small microphone dictates text. The voice button starts a conversation with the AI; you can mute the microphone during the call. The status shows connecting, listening, thinking or speaking. Retry after an error, or open app settings if microphone access is missing.

Your draft and selected files are saved on this device for each account and organisation. If the previous chat is unavailable, open the draft in a new chat. You can type your next question while an answer is being generated.

Search history, assistants and files. History and file search covers loaded items: load more to find older items. Recently used assistants appear first. Choose System, Dark or Light in Settings.

Knowledge, account and administration

Open More to find platform knowledge, personal notes and school or organisation resources. Search, pin items, open original files and use available assistants, document templates, videos and courses. Course progress and document drafts remain available on your other devices.

Account lets you manage linked sign-in methods, request a password reset and choose an available main location. Migration appears when your organisation allows it; select what to copy beforehand. After an interruption, retrieve the migration status again.

Administration depends on your role and selected school. It includes people and groups, knowledge and authoring, AI policies, budgets, usage and billing. Authorised administrators can manage tenants. Export selected accounts as CSV, Excel, Word, PDF or PowerPoint. Check the selection before sharing.

These additions belong to the new native version; availability in Google Play may lag behind this guide. Server actions need internet. Retry after an error; an external action already in progress may need a status check first.
